Why we drink milk and eat dairy products
We continue to consume dairy long after we are weaned because we are told it is good for us. In this video, Dr. Richard Oppenlander challenges that assumption.
Dairy is the most resource inefficient food item that we humans produce. When it is all said and done... "It took, on average, over 1,000 gallons of fresh, clean water to produce one gallon of milk. It required massive inefficient land use for all of the cows and crops to feed them. It contributed heavily to green house gas emissions and climate change, and it created water and air pollution - to then give us a product that is unhealthy to consume." - Dr. Oppenlander, 2014
Dairy products do not help with osteoporosis, drops your immune response and increases risk of various types of diseases. 75% of the entire world population are lactose intolerant. In fact, humans are the only species on the planet to drink milk after we have been weaned, and drink milk from a completely different species' mother. And let us not forget the fate of bobby calves who are treated as by-products, removed from their mothers after birth and slaughtered for veal.
Dairy is obsolete. It is time we evolved towards more efficient, sustainable, healthier and compassionate plant-based dairy products
